about
After Stewart's successful "Spend The Day Frozen" 12" and recent tours through Australia and North America, Persona is pleased to present the latest update to his sound with the "After This I'll Never Sleep" 12" This is the first release of Persona since the "Degenerate" 12" to include a full printed sleeve.
Tracks:
A1) After This I'll Never Sleep
Coming deep and moving with seamonster funk, this is Stewart's first official "acid track" recorded with the aid of a Devilfish-modified TB-303. Furthering his Musique Concréte with kick drum aesthetic, Stewart also adds some muted trumpet, foghorns lost in dank murky humidity, and Cristian Vogel-inspired FM vamps all collected with a fat kick-drum and broken shuffle percussion. Perfect for the afterparty ghouls in zombified motion with fluttering eyelids.
B1) Mogu Mogu
This track reminds us of Stewart's Live Extracts-era material. Driving, with flashes of synthesizer, and resonant bass slurps, this track masterfully builds itself up, tears down and tries on new elements until finally all gets cemented into the groove with the lumpy bassline that comes in at the fourth minute. And all of sudden, what was abstract and spacy becomes forward motion, pushin' pushin'.
B2) Crabgrass vs. Monkeygrass
One more from Mr. Walker for the delicate blue eyed lovers, with manicured nails and absynth kits hanging in the liquor cabinet. Okay, or more like the hippie father serenading his flower child on a blanket in the park. We've noticed a new element peeking through his sound lately. Shininess and light. Pleasure and happiness. Maybe it's the yearning for the first green shoots of grass at the Volkspark, but this track works if you're feeling blue or dj'ing it at a backyard barbecue.
